Introduction to the Service Deployment System (SDX300) for JUNOS

Course No: EDU-JUN-SDX300ENT

Course Overview

This course provides a solid foundation to the Service Deployment System (SDX-300) application and how it operates in an enterprise environment. This course provides an overview of the new SDX-300 architecture, which operates in a distributed environment, although the labs are done in a local, single-system configuration. It shows how the Enterprise and Network Address Translation portals are used to dynamically provision both stateful and stateless firewalls, premium bandwidth and traffic services, accounting, and address translation services, from both the customers' and provider's perspectives. Students use the SDX Admin tool to create new enterprises, administrators, and services, and use the Policy Editor to create new policies, which define those services.

Objectives

After successfully completing this course, you will be able to:

  • Describe the SDX-300 application and how it works in an enterprise environment.
  • Use the SDX-300 application to activate value-added services for a connection.
  • Describe the SDX-300 architecture.
  • Describe basic LDAP terminology.
  • Set up and use the Enterprise Manager portal and NAT Address Manager portal.
  • Use the Enterprise Manager portal to provision firewall, premium bandwidth, accounting, and address translation services.
  • Use the SDX-300 Admin tool to view and modify the LDAP directory, and add new access links and define new services.
  • Use the Policy Editor to create new policies.
  • Use the JUNOS software CLI to view and troubleshoot policy configuration.
  • Describe the purpose of the interface and user classification scripts.
  • Configure a hierarchical enterprise administrative environment.
  • Discuss the current method for implementing a wholesaler/retailer model with J-series, M-series, and T-series platforms.
  • Define and customize service sets using scopes.
  • Install and configure the SDX-300 application software on a single SDX-300 machine, including openLDAP directory server and the Enterprise Manager and NAT portals.
  • Configure the Service Activation Engine using the SDX Configuration Editor.
  • Configure a new provider's SDX-300 environment, including initializing the directory with demo data and populating the directory with new edge devices, policies, services, and subscribers.
  • Test and troubleshoot the new SDX-300 environment.

Intended Audience

This course is intended for technical network professionals responsible for the integration, configuration, and management of the SDX-300 software.

Course Level

This is an intermediate- to advanced-level course designed to provide a strong foundation for configuring the SDX 300 software and understanding how it manages JUNOS-based routers.

Prerequisites

The prerequisite for the Introduction to the Service Deployment System (SDX-300) for JUNOS class is the Configuring Juniper Networks Routers course or equivalent knowledge. Knowledge of the Juniper Networks Adaptive Services PIC is helpful but not required. The student should have a strong understanding of fundamental TCP, stateful firewall, Network Address Translation, class-of-service concepts, and basic UNIX skills, including file management functions (cd, pwd, cp, mv, etc.), and network operation commands (ifconfig, netstat, etc.). Solid knowledge of IP, including addressing, subnetting, and basic routing concepts is also required.
